After galvanizing with a zinc layer of 5 to 20 microns, the protective surface is made to react with other metal elements that resist oxidation (e.g. chromium or nickel). The zinc coating is thus slightly altered to create a metal film that is more resistant to the formation of rust.
To erode the zinc layer, oxygen must first try to oxidize the most superficial passivating element, which is inherently very resistant to this process. This will increase the service life of the galvanizing of steels and metals.
